Hayden Planetarium History and Experience

Originally opened in 1935, the Hayden Planetarium has undergone several transformations, with the most recent renovation in 2000 leading to the creation of the Rose Center. This modern iteration is a state-of-the-art facility, featuring the impressive 87-foot diameter Hayden Sphere, which houses the Space Theater. Frequently Asked Questions

The parking garage is open from 6 am–11 pm on weekdays, 8am–11pm on weekends.

  • Selfie-sticks are not permitted at the Museum.
  • Tripods and lights may not be used.
  • Reproduction or sale of photographs is not allowed without Museum permission.
  • No photography or filming is permitted in the theaters, including the Hayden Planetarium Space Theater or in the LeFrak Theater.
